1623 c, entire, etc. imageSouth Africa: Natal: Anglo-Zulu War: 1879 (May 8) 4d. and 6d. stationery envelope from London, addressed to “Captain Edward B. Evans, 10th. Battery, 7th. Brigade, Natal”, scarce incoming mail. Captain Evans in 1876 served with the battery posted to Mauritius. In early 1879 his regiment was sent to South Africa after the defeat of the British at Isandhlwana. He saw action and was present at Ulundi for the conclusion of hostilities in July. Photo. (Image1)

1624 c, entire, etc. South Africa: Natal: First Anglo-Boer War: 1881 cover from Major Redvers Henry Buller to his sister Alice in England, franked 6d. tied by Newcastle Apr. 7 c.d.s. with May 7 red London Paid arrival, backstamped Durban Apr. 11 transit. General Redvers Henry Buller, VC, GCB, GCMG (1839–1908) had been awarded the Victoria Cross during the Anglo-Zulu War for his heroic actions during the Battle of Hlobane. In 1881 he was serving as chief of staff to Sir Evelyn Wood and had been present at signing of the peace treaty with Wood, Joubert and Kruger at O'Neil's Cottage on Mar. 2r. In the following year Buller was knighted and later served as Commander-in-Chief of British Forces in South Africa during the early months of the Second Boer War.
