In this month Customs officer Rumbolds, earlier considered “unreliable, indiscreet, most untruthful and inefficient in execution of his duty” by Magistrate Arthur Fleuret, submitted an application for leave at the end of the 1946 whaling season and to retire on pension while in England, which was duly granted.
