London Inland Section charge mark and a 3d. postage due applied at Clevedon (Mar. 1). Posted at Khartoum (apparently privately carried by Gladstone for a friend and additional to the eight official covers posted there). 276 / c, entire, etc. imageEast Africa Airmails: 1928 (Feb. 12) cover from Khartoum to England, franked by 10m. tied by Khartoum datestamp, bearing embossed “Entebbe Club Uganda”, manuscript “By Air from Entebbe to Khartoum” and initialled by Sir Alan Cobham on the reverse. In 1928 Sir Alan Cobham flew a flying boat around the continent of Africa, landing only in British territory. During these flights Cobham fulfilled the outstanding flights of Gladstone’s contract by flying from Entebbe to Khartoum and back. No official mail was carried, but he is known to have hand carried two covers from England to East Africa and three covers from Entebbe to Khartoum. Photo. (Image1)
