1588 nh/ogO   German World War II occupations specialized collection of varieties and errors, a very interesting and unusual collection in that it is comprised exclusively of errors and varieties of the occupation issues, nearly all of which are listed in the Michel catalog, largely hundreds of mint singles, but also some multiples, souvenir sheets or sheetlets, some used, a few covers and proofs, all neatly mounted annotated and identified by Michel numbers on exhibition pages in a binder, some stronger areas include Albania, Belgium Flemish Legion, Estonia, France including Dunkirk, St. Nazaire and French Legion, General Government, Laiback, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Ukraine and Zara, with a great many local issues present, also includes some miscellaneous material and a few surprises, the overall quality is excellent, being o.g., l.h. or mostly n.h., fine-very fine; nearly all better items are signed, largely by Krischke and seventeen certificates accompany; a very worthwhile lot which should be viewed to be fully appreciated. 1589 O   Great Britain massive 19th Century used collection/accumulation offered intact as received, in over 40 stockbooks, plus some on album pages and some loose in boxes, much of the value lies in the surface printed issues, where the collector attempted to get all the different plate numbers and check letters, while a large percentage of the stamps is in the numerous ½p-2p values, there are also quantities of the higher cataloging 3p to 2/- values, and one stockbook contains the 1883-1884 high shilling values, with 2/6 (about 100), 5/- (about 65) and 10/- (about 50), plus there is another stockbook that contains some line engraved, including ten Penny Blacks, as well as the Queen Victoria long £1 Brown Violet and £1 Green, a little bit of mint and some cancel interest, usual mixed condition; the total catalog value will be enormous and should add up to many, many multiples of our estimate. 1597 c   Italy - Republic of Venice fifteenth century cover collection, this collection of 38 covers dates back over 500 years, from the time Venice was the trading center of the Mediterranean and the covers were delivered by messengers, this was the real beginning of the postal system that we know today, for a while these runners and/or ships delivered mail for merchants who displayed their "hall", "guild" or trade marks on the front of the cover, it was a long step forward from the ancient mails that were maintained for the use of the rulers and high nobility as well as high military officers, the collection is mounted on album pages and annotated and includes covers to Alexandria, Crete, Damascus, etc., and from Austria, Crete (including one to Turkey), Syria (Laodicea to Amman and Beyrouth to Damascus) for example, all in a remarkable state of preservation, most with guild marks and/or paid marks with string fasteners and seal, in addition there are 30 sixteenth century covers from the Corsini correspondence sold by Robson Lowe in the early 1980's (mainly to Florence) and 20 later stampless cover with handstamped markings, mainly relating to Venice including "CFC" courier markings, generally very fine; a superb lot for internet resale.
