A superb cancel on a stamp with excellent perforation and a slight bend in bottom left corner, only visible from the back. Voerman 400. A very late use and the latest recorded date for this postmark; just a few weeks before the introduction of the number cancellation. Rare and attractive. The post offices of Buitenzorg and Muntok used the half-round franco postmark and the round franco mark at the same time. The reason for this remains unclear. (Image 1) (Image 2)

Stamp with excellent perforation tied by rare Koedoes round franco postmark 22.5 1873, with an additional strike on the cover. Samarang receiver 23.5 1873 on back. Complete folded letter with fragile paper and some internal splitting; some toning to letter and stamp. With certificate Vleeming, 2018. A GREAT RARITY OF THE ROUND FRANCO CANCELLATIONS. THREE SINGLE STAMPS ARE KNOWN AND THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED LETTER. WITH EXCELLENT POSTMARK QUALITY USED ONE WEEK AFTER KOEDOES’ ESTABLISHMENT AS A POST OFFICE. The small office of Koedoes was established as a sub-post office in 1864. It acquired status as a regular post office May 15th 1873. 10207   imageMadioen. 1870, 10 cent brown single on registered Chinese letter to Samarang. Stamp tied to letter by framed AANGETEEKEND (registered) handstamp with red circular Madioen 26.12 1872 on the letter. On front are five red seals with a Chinese character, and two red chops, as well as manuscript “10” for registration fee. Samarang 27.12 arrival on back. Letter and stamp with some damage probably from insects. A most unusual and undoubtedly unique letter with the stamp obliterated contrary to regulation by the framed AANGETEEKEND marking, when the half-round franco cancel should have been used. 10209 O   imageMuntok. 1868, 10 cent red pos. 16 with a wonderful central and bold strike of the Muntok round franco postmark 12.5 18??. A superb cancel on an immaculate stamp. Voerman 175. Rare and attractive. The Muntok office on Banka Island off the east coast of Sumatra appears to have used both the half-round franco postmark and this round franco postmark at the same time (like Buitenzorg). The Muntok round franco cancel was in an unusual local design with the word “franco” written in a straight line (and not curving) and a decorative rosette below "franco" , a tiny piece of which can be discerned on this stamp. Stamps in excellent condition tied by rare Weltevreden round franco postmark 2.7 1873, with an additional strike on the cover; manuscript “Franco” and “2” indicating second weight. Also blue oval cachet of E. Ten Brinck & Co. Soerabaija and routing handstamp NED-INDIE VIA MARSEILLE FRANSCHE PAKKETB. Deventer receiver 11.8 1873 on back. Complete folded letter without content in very fresh condition. With certificate Vleeming, 2018. A GREAT RARITY OF THE ROUND FRANCO POSTMARKS; ONLY THREE LETTERS KNOWN. THIS EXCEPTIONAL LETTER SHOWS A VERY EARLY USAGE FROM ONE MONTH AFTER THE ESTABLISHMENT OF WELTEVREDEN AS REGULAR POST OFFICE. One of the finest letters from the extensive correspondence to Ankersmith in Deventer. The office of Weltevreden opened in 1864 but used Batavia postmarks; April 1st 1873 Weltevreden acquired status as a regular post office and used the round franco postmark. The 120 cent rate for double weight to the Netherlands by overland via Marseille was valid Jan. 1863-May 1876. The total journey time of 35 days is unusually fast. 10212   imageBatavia. 10 cent 1868 and 50 cent 1870 in rare mixed franking on piece, tied by Batavia half-round franco postmark 25.8 1870. Both stamp with good colour and excellent perforation. A rare remnant of the highly desirable mixed franking of the 1868 and 1870 issues, of which 27 letters have been recorded. The mixed issue use on this piece would most likely have paid the 60 cent rate for a letter to the Netherlands via Marseille (rate valid Jan. 1870-May 1876). A most attractive exhibition piece with different shades of the red stamps. The mixed usage of the second and third issues occurred because the 10 cent of 1868 had to be cleared from post offices before the 10 cent of the 1870 issue could be put into circulation. Because of this, the 10 cent of the third series began circulation very late in 1870 and not from January 1st as the other higher value of that series. (Image 1) (Image 2)

Stamps tied by framed FRANCO and Batavia half-round franco postmark 25.1 1871 with an additional strike on the cover. Also on front are numberings with a dating in Batavia 26.1 1871. On back are red line stamp ONRUST (24 mm) and Brielle arrival with unclear date. Envelope with a few small tears to right side and stamps with excellent perforation on an extremely rare mixed franking cover in very good condition. THE ONLY MIXED FRANKING LETTER ORIGINATING IN THE SMALL ONRUST ISLAND SUB-POST OFFICE; USAGE WITH DOUBLE CANCELLATION. A GREAT RARITY OF CLASSIC NEI POSTAL HISTORY AND A TOP EXHIBITION PIECE. 60 cent rate for a letter to the Netherlands via Marseille (Jan. 1870-May 1876). On Onrust Island was a naval base and military fortification. The Onrust sub-post office opened in Oct. 1868 and was closed in Feb. 1889; the office collected mail for the main post office in nearby Batavia as this letter exemplifies. On back are red line stamp TOELONG-AGOONG (41 mm) and The Hague arrival 29.8 1870. Envelope with some repairs at back and the name of addressee rewritten. Stamps with excellent perforation on a rare and very attractive mixed franking cover. With signature Georg Bühler on back. THE ONLY MIXED FRANKING LETTER FROM KEDIRIE AND A RARE SUB-POST OFFICE USAGE WITH DOUBLE CANCELLATION. A GREAT RARITY OF CLASSIC NEI POSTAL HISTORY. 60 cent rate for a letter to the Netherlands via Marseille (Jan. 1870-May 1876). Complete folded letter sheet without content; on back is Amsterdam arrival 2.10 1870. A very minor fault at the bottom the 10 cent 1868, but both stamps with good colour and excellent perforation. One of three mixed frankings originating from Samarang. ONE OF THE FINEST OF THE RARE MIXED FRANKING LETTERS OF WHICH A LITTLE MORE THAN 25 HAVE BEEN RECORDED. AN EXHIBITION ITEM FOR THE ADVANCED COLLECTOR AND AN OBJECT OF SPLENDID VISUAL APPEAL. 60 cent rate for a letter to the Netherlands via Marseille (Jan. 1870-May 1876). Deventer arrival 6.3 1874 on back. Stamps in excellent condition and struck by a very early number cancellation from the second week of usage (number cancellations introduced 1.1. 1874).
