1855-58 De La Rue Covers & 1872 Registered Cover to Bundi. An attractive and diverse group of seven De La Rue covers (1855–58), addressed to a variety of destinations including Geneva, Moira (Ireland), Brighton (England), and Scotland,
illustrating overseas mail routes and usages of the period. Also included is a scarce and colourful registered cover, dated 17 August 1872, from Aurungabad to Bundi (apparently addressed to the Rajah). The cover is franked with 1865 issues (2 × ½
anna) and a 1866 4 annas, all tied by the “AURUNGABAD / 14” duplex, with an additional circular datestamp.Of particular note is the very fine boxed 4-line registration cachet in red, accompanied by a red “TOO LATE” marking, with Agra transit and
Boondee arrival datestamps (the latter in red). This is an early and desirable example, as from late 1872 registration cachets were typically applied in black throughout India, making this red cachet especially noteworthy. Some minor faults, but
overall a scarce and visually appealing group with strong postal history interest. (Image 1)
