1840 1d black pl.4 BA-IA, vertical strip of eight ("DA" showing double letter "D") with good to very large margins on all sides and showing portions of six adjoining stamps at right, tied by red Maltese Cross cancellation on slightly
refolded entire dated 1840 (Sep 9) addressed to Plymouth, double-ring "MORE / TO /PAY" handstamp below, some marginal creases between the stamps, fine. A sensational and extremely rare strip, thought to be the largest recorded vertical strip known on
cover, a showpiece of the highest calibre.

1840 1d black pl.4 PA/QF used block of twelve with large margins all round, neatly cancelled by crisp strikes of the red Maltese cross, showing double letters on PA and QA, a few faults as to be expected of a multiple this size, though
in no way detracting from the stunning appearance of this incredibly rare exhibition quality multiple being one of the finest blocks of this size of any plate.
