1863 (May 21) envelope from Cape Town to Scotland with De La Rue 1s bright emerald green, just cut into, tied by smudgy cancel, endorsed "Per Briton" steamship with Devonport Cape Packet entry below, red ms “11” (11d credit to the
Scotland for newly increased rate which came in on April 1st, 1863 from 6d to 1s per ½ oz), reverse with Cape despatch and partial Aberdeen arrival (missing portion of backflap). A very rare usage of this stamp with less than 15 known to exist as
they were used for a only very short duration due to issuance of the Cape rectangular issues; ex R. Johnson and J. Tolbutt (S.G. £3'750).(Image 1)
