This very rare blue usage was only for mail posted on board northbound voyages; only 10 examples have been recorded in this colour. 27   imageVAPOR ECUADOR COVER WITH "VAPOR CHILE/P" IN VERY RARE BLUE INK (STRUCK ON BOARD THE SS ECUADOR); 13 July 1849 EL (slightly toned horiz. fold across address) ex "Valparaiso" to "Lima", most unusually endorsed "Vapor Ecuador" with a partly fine blue "VAPOR CHILE/P" on the front (just affected by fold) used on the First Voyage of the SS Ecuador on the Valparaiso to Callao route (formerly it was on the Callao to Panama route). This very rare blue usage was only for mail posted on board northbound voyages; only 10 examples have been recorded in this colour. This is an even more exceptional usage, having been used on the SS Ecuador. One of only 4 recorded PSNC covers sent by the Ecuador (only one of which has the "VAPOR/ECUADOR/P" mark). "VAPOR CHILE/P" (RED) & "VAPOR PERU/P" (BLACK) REDIRECTED INTERNAL PERU COVER SENT ON TO CHILE; Very fine c.1845 E ex a Peruvian port to "Don Juan Cazaubon" in Lima posted from Callao with a very fine black "VAPOR PERU/P" placed inverted on the front with "1[r]" internal charge; then redirected to "Valparaiso" with a fine rare Valparaiso red "VAPOR CHILE/P" with "1½[r]" incoming foreign Packet charge. This is believed to be the only cover recorded with the PSNC "VAPOR...../P" marks of two different ships. Also a very rare red usage of the "CHILE" mark in Valparaiso; only 9 examples have been recorded in this colour. A spectacular and probably Unique usage. 30   imageVAPOR LIMA/P IN BLACK INK OF VALPARAISO - ON COVER TO CALLAO REDIRECTED TO CHINCHA ISLANDS; Fine 30 Nov. 1853 EL (in English) ex "Valparaiso" to the Captain of "Barque Warlock c/o Messrs. Conroy, Callao", endorsed "pr. Steamer" with a partly fine black "VAPOR LIMA/P" inverted on the front but without charge; then sent back by post (fair blue "LIMA" & "VAPOR" cds on the flap) southwards again to Pisco as the 'Warlock' had left Callao for the Chincha Islands by the time this letter arrived (on 9 Dec.). It was then forwarded from Pisco to the ship at the Chincha Is. by an Agent with the endorsement "Recd. & forwarded by your obt. Servt., G. Bull, Pisco Decr. 24/53" on the flap. This rare SS Lima mark is only known in black but only 11 covers have been recorded (all from Valparaiso), and this Pisco Forwarding Agent combination is exceptional. Exhibition Item. This SS Quito mark is very rare with only 9 covers recorded (all in black and sent from/via Valparaiso). An attractive and most unusual usage sent all the way up the Pacific coast to California. The Quito had a short PSNC career from early 1852 until August 1853 when she was wrecked on a reef near Huasco, hence the rarity of her marking. Exhibition Item. Perkins, Bacon & Petch, London" with significant contents ref. the PSNC stamps: "With reference to the postage labels with which you supplied this Company per order of Mr. Wheelwright, and to the materials for obliterating - part of which we were advised of having been forwarded to the Company's Manager at Callao by the West India packet November last, and part by the mail of January following, I am desired to enquire whether an adequate supply of the abovementioned materials proceeded by the Steamers alluded to; or if you consider it necessary to to transmit anything further to enable Mr. Hutcheson to introduce the use of the labels."
