Anderson of Pebble Island bearing two 1938 KGVI 1d adhesives; also a 1960 receipt for 100 live sheep at a cost of £25 (5/- each) for C. & K. Bertrand of Carcass Island to the Dean Bros. of Pebble Island. A rare example of trade between two of the more remote Islands; also the 1952 KGVI 4d adhesive is paying twice the normal 2d rate for receipts. 243   imageREVENUES - STAMP DUTY ON THE CONVEYANCE OF LAND & BUILDINGS 1952-68: Six full documents on three A2 size exhibition sheets housed in a plastic A2 size wallet; comprising three Conveyance forms from 1952, one bearing KGVI 1952 10/- tied with colourless embossed hs 'Registrar General-Falkland Islands' also endorsed with double straight line 'Registrar General hs in purple black; the next bearing KGVI £1 x 14 plus a single tied with the same hs & a further example bearing KGVI £1 x 20 stamps again tied with the same hs paying a duty of 1% of the total purchase value with some of the stamps on the reverse of the document; also a document bearing KGVI £1 x 4 tied with the double lined hs in blue. The remaining two documents are dated 1963 with 1960 Birds 10/- with blue hs & 1968 with 1960 Birds £1 x 38 tied with black hs again having some stamps on the reverse of the document. All very fine and superbly presented together with a small quantity of ephemera mostly photographs of some of the streets & roads named in the Conveyances. A striking set of documents. 249   imageFALMOUTH "BRAZIL/F" COVER TO G.B. EX "H.M.S. DUBLIN" IN RIO - CONTENTS DESCRIBING THE FALKLAND ISLANDS; 12 Aug. 1836 EL from Sub. Lt. "Wm. Armytage" headed from "H.M.S. Dublin, Rio Janeiro" to his mother in Wakefield (1 Oct. arrival cds) with a faint oily-green undated "BRAZIL/F" of Falmouth Packet Office on the reverse, charged £/7" (2/7 Packet + 1/- inland). The contents include a rare description of the Falklands, and the writer's reluctance to go there again; "I expect that the 'Harrier' will go down to the Falkland Islands; they are very barren and the only inhabitants are a Lieutenant and a few seamen. It is very cold down there and fresh beef is the only thing that is to be got. If the 'Harrier' is ordered down [there] I would rather not go there...".
