PERFORATED QV ISSUES & PARCEL POST LABELS. VERY RARE BOXED "EXETER" SCOTS-LOCAL-LIKE CANCEL ON OFF-COVER 2d BLUE 'STARS';
c.Aug./Sept. 1855 off-cover 2d Blue 'Stars' (5 inc. one pair) cancelled purely by very fine rare boxed "EXETER" marks. This distinctive Exeter cancel resembles the contemporary Scots Local cancels, but only 7 covers and a few pieces/stamps have been
recorded with it, all dated between 13 Aug. and 9 Sep. 1855. The usual Exeter Sideways Duplex continued in regular use throughout this period, so it seems that this mysterious cancellation must have been used for an Experiment of some kind. Cross
