1920-46 GERMAN NAVY: A comprehensive collection of covers, PPCs, PCs, & some photographs etc. Most items include additional information, name, type, conflicts, etc. and some have image of ship with cover/card, most are stored in protective pockets. Capital ships are well represented but smaller vessels such as minesweeper (9), torpedo boats (17), training ships, etc. are included. 1939 Letter from sailor written on paper embossed "Kreuzer 'Admiral Hipper'" with photo of sender; Sperrbrecher (Barrier Breaker) where heavily armoured merchant ships that acted as auxiliary minesweeper and escorted warships out of port to clear mines. 1942 cover and image of one of these ships and photos of some crew members; 1929 PPC written on "KMS Emden" cancelled by cds DEUTSCHE / MARINE SCHIFFSPOST 18.1,29, note erased "KAIS." from hs; 1940 env. from "Schleswig Holstein" which fired the first shot of WWII with photo. G.137"; 1915 PPC with v.fine cds ECKERNFORDE/ 9.12.15, on the Baltic cast, with ms "U.B.92.2. Kiel"; 1915 PPC with fine "K.D.Feldpostamf / des Marine Korps/ 30.11.15" cds & alongside inverted a slightly weak in top park, a blue cds "Kaiserliche Marine /FELDPOST/ U-Flottille Flandern" (the Flanders flotilla was formed on 29 March 1915 to lay mines in the English Channel); 1918 fine PPC with ms U-51 and fine single ring MSP No 204. Based at Pula in the Adriatic, U-51 sank 20 ships; 1918 with fine MSP No 64 the German U Boat Flotilla based at Kotor (Cattaro, a forward station based on Pula on the Adriatic); 1918 another Adriatic base at Fiume, PPC dated 23 Apr. 1918 & ms S.M.U35 with v. weak s/l"K.u.k.
