STUDY OF CANCELLATION TYPES ON 1853 40c ORANGE, ETC.: Presented on album leaves, collection includes examples of grand & petit chiffre lozenges, lettres batons, cachets ambulants, gros points carres, pointille fin, roulette d'etoiles, etc. Inc. an example of petit chiffre in red, used in Algeria, used on French paquebots, cancelled on arrival in Spain, roulette perforation, etc. Also of note, a mint but close-cut example of the stamp SG 64 (£3,500). Lot also inc. a page of Paris 'star' cancels (37 stamps) on various 1863 values and a used set of 4 values of the 1871-76 issue with thick figures of value. Mostly 4-margin throughout.
