1027   imageSPECTACULAR MANUSCRIPT 'SQUIGGLES' CANCELLATION ON VERY LOCAL 1d RED 'STARS' COVER; 29 July 1856 EL (somewhat toned horiz. filing fold affects address but well clear of stamp and cancel) sent a mere 2 miles by post from "Penistone" in Yorkshire to a farm in the nearby hamlet of "Hoylandswaine"; franked with a 1d Red 'Stars' most unusually - but entirely as per P.O. regulations at the time for letters sent from a rural sub-office that was not to pass through a larger P.O. - cancelled and well tied by a series of manuscript ink squiggles/arcs. understandably very few rural letters were posted from village P.O.s to nearby addresses and so this correct method of Manuscript cancellation on a 1d Red is very rare.
