Beirut Registration 1894: Preprinted bilingual (Turkish & French) envelope for the Return of Acknowledgement of Receipt / Registration Forms to the St. Louis, USA Post Office, struck with weak BEYROUTH cds
in black, "Registered / London" transit in red (Aug 15) and two line "ST. LOUIS, MO / AUG 26, 1894" arrival in blue on obverse; reverse with Port Said cds, Alexandria cds and New York transits. An extremely rare usage - believed to be
the sole example from any Post Office in the Turkish Empire. Unique. Note: The UPU Treaty of Vienna in July 1892, required that AR Forms be filled in at destination and then mailed back under registered cover to the Post Office of
origin - the Turkish script on this cover states "Official documents and samples returned from one post office to another" and the French reads "List of returned registered objects". (Image 1)
