1981 cover imageRussian Consular Post Offices, Galatz; 1871 (Oct 14): Cover to
Taganrog, Sea of Azov, Russia, bearing Russian Levant 1868 10 k.
carmine & green perf 11½, tied by clear GALATS cds with fleuron in
light blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 49), ODESSA transit (Oct 19) cds
and TAGANROG arrival (Oct 23) cds, both in black alongside. Few
blunted perfs & filing folds not affecting the adhesive,
nevertheless an appealing cover from a rare correspondence.
Illustrated in Edition d'Or volume 72 on page 102. Note: Following
the Russo-Romanian Postal Convention of 15/27 November 1867 the
Russian Consular offices should have been closed for public
services and should have handled only official mail. However, from
the years 1868 to 1872 mail primarily from this correspondence is

with an abundance of duplicates, highly specialized with shades,
multiples, varieties and other specialties, some better values
throughout and some in large numbers with 1853 20 c. blue
(Sassone-Nr.5) used (6) and as proof on thick paper (Opinion
Newiger BPP), 1855 40 c. carmine/rose (Sassone-Nr. 16) used (56),
etc., many better shades, together with some proofs and essays, a

2119 cover image1868: King Michael 40 pa. ultramarine, Belgrade printing on pelure
paper, a used example, bisected horizontally, upper half, used on
24 June 1867 entire letter from Paracin to Brood, Slavonia via
Belgrade (Tasovac correspondence) at single internal rate tied by
framed "NAPLACENO" handstamp in blue with oily despatch cds above
and reverse with Belgrade transit cds (June 26). From Belgrade the
cover would have been carried by courier to Ottoman controlled
Brood. Some ageing and file fold well away from the adhesive but a
great rarity - there are just two bisect covers from Serbia to a
destination abroad recorded. Signed Kardosch, Friedl. Note:

arrival cds (March 12). An exceptional rarity in superb quality.

shades and plate flaws, starting from the stampless period with
1842 entire letter to Yagodine with straightline "Kragouevatz" and
registration "N", the collection unfolds with the earlier issues
showing an abundance of duplicates, 1866 20 para rose (Mi.-Nr. 5)
unused (x48) and used (44), 40 para ultramarine (Mi.-Nr. 6) used
(46), 1867 Newspaper 1 para olive-green (Mi.-Nr. 9) unused (43)
including a large block of twenty, 2 para olive-brown (Mi.-Nr. 10)
unused (30), etc. The 1869/1880 Prince Milan issue well represented
with some covers including multiple and combination frankings,
noted 1871 entire from "BRZAN" to Kragouevatz franked at the
scarcer 60 paras rate with 20 p. and 40 (Mi-Nr. 14+17), foreign
destinations with Austria, later issues with 1915 5 para yellow
green (Mi.-Nr. 130) full sheet of 100 unmounted og., and more. An
interesting specialist lot, mixed condition as to be expected.
