2026 cover imageIngoing, 1850 (Oct. 13): Part paid cover from Vienna to Bucharest
bearing 1850 (June) 9 Kr. light blue in type I, a fresh and fine
example, tied by WIEN datestamp, oval "SANCT-GEORGEUM / MANUCRISE"
cachet on violet alongside, two-line "BUKAREST / 27 OCT." arrival
backstamp (Tchilinghirian fig. 709). Note: The franking just paid
the part of the journey to the Austrian border. A wrong handwritten
taxation note of '3 / 6' kreuzer should have reflected the overland
route rate in the Levant of 6 kreuzer since July 1850 plus 3
kreuzer zutaxe. However, this zutaxe was levied only in Austria,
not in the Levant up to 1866. The '3' was therefore crossed out in
the same ink and the receiver had to pay only 6 soldi. (Image 1) (Image 2)

with large to huge margins all round, tied to small blue piece by
"JASSY / MOLDOVA" cds (28/8) in brownish red (Kiriac fig. 279) -
this being the first day of use of this datestamp in red on the
Bull's Heads and showing a lack of the more typically found carmine
pigment. Merest trace of rubbbing between 'KP' at top and alongside
'7' to right of value tablet. Illustrated in the Heimbüchler
handbook, volume 1, on pages 128 and 281. An exceptional example of
this great rarity - one of the rarest of all No.1's. Signed

used example with large to huge margins all round and probably from
the top of the sheet, tied to small piece by "TEKUTSCH / MOLDOVA"
cds (30/8) in blue (Kiriac fig. 283). Horizontal file fold and tiny
pinhole well away from the design, a stamp of superlative colour
and delightful appearance. Illustrated in the Heimbüchler census,
volume 1, on page 355, position 4 and and illustrated in colour on
paage 131. Just 12 examples are recorded from Tekutsch, two of
which are in museum collections. A magnificent stamp. Signed

2030 cover image1858: 54 pa. blue on bluish-green horizontally laid paper, a
cut-round example with design clear all round, used on 1858
registered entire letter from Bakeu to Jassy tied by fine strike of
"BAKEU / MOLDOVA" cds (12/9) in blue (Kiriac fig. 271) with
"RECEPISSE" above next to registration number 980 and crossed in
manuscript to denote registration. The entire opens well for
display showing "Jassy / Moldova" cds (14/9) in red on reverse
(Kiriac fig. 279) alongside near complete red wax seal. An
exceptional and most attractive entire - Bakeu always cut the
stamps from the sheet in this fashion - and most used examples are
nowhere near as fine as this. Illustrated in Heimbüchler handbook,
volume 1, on pages 130 and 305. Just five covers bearing this stamp
are recorded from Bakeu, in this describer's opinion this is
without doubt the finest. Signed Heimbüchler, Köhler and Pirl
(1922). Cert. Heimbüchler (2010) and Cherata AIEP (2026) Mi = €
