Branzi to Clusone, bearing Sardinia IV. emission 20 c. 'azzuro
oltremare', good to large margins, tied by perfect BRANZI double
ring datestamp in blue (Sassone BG = 8 punti + 20%), information
strike alongside. Reverse with "BERGAMO-BASSA" transit and CLUSONE
arrival cds's of the following day. Horizontal file folds well away
from franking and postmarks, an attractive cover with this rare
cancellation. Cert. E. Diena (1990) Sassone = € 100 + 1'200.

letter from Naples to Milan, bearing Province Napoletane 5 gr.
lilac, a fine and fresh adhesives with good to large margins, well
embossed, not cancelled upon despatch thimble NAPOLI despatch cds
in black alongside, tied upon arrival with "MILANO 8 DIC 61" cds.
Reverse with another MILANO strike and distribution handstamps. The
Province Napoletane adhesives valid until October 1862, on an
appealing cover whose content deserves further Social Philately
study. Signed Em. Diena. Note: The letter directed to Eleuterio
Pagliano (1826-1903), an Italian painter of the Romantic period as

two strikes of NAPOLI cds in red. An exceptional combination of
three issues, two from the Regno, one from Sardinia, the 15 c.
adhesives just issued two weeks ago, a desirable item. Zanaria &

(March 22): Quadruple Registered Envelope from Naples to Rome,
bearing Sardinia IV. emission 10 c. bistre (upper part glued over
envelope's edge and cut away when opened) in mixed franking with
Italy Regno I. emission 80 c. yellow-orange, a fresh adhesive, both
tied by NAPOLI cds in red, framed RACCOMANDATO in the same ink
alongside. Reverse with "DISTRIBUZIONE DI ROMA" (March 24) cds. In
spite of its limitations, an appealing and interesting cover, the
mixed franking paying correctly the four times the 15 c. inland
rate plus 30 c. registration fee, the receiver had to pay '60'
bajocchi for the part within the Papal States, signed A. Diena

(Apr) 15 c. blue type II, tied by light "MESOLA FERRARA" cds in
black, an information strike alongside. Reverse with arrival cds of
the same day, a very late usage of this adhesive. Note: Still
valid, this issue was no more sold at the post offices after
issuing the London De La Rue definitives in December 1863. Isolated
examples which had been in the possession of the public are found
