1702 cover image1918/1919: Allied Occupation of Fiume “Allied Victory & the Future
of Fiume” display collection. A highly interesting and historically
evocative collection presented on thirteen display pages,
documenting the Allied arrival and subsequent occupation of Fiume
at the close of the First World War. The collection opens with a
postcard depicting the arrival of British forces in Fiume harbour,
together with a further card to England from the British flagship
Tatra (22 December 1918). Italian military mail is represented by a
registered cover to Livorno (25 January 1919), addressed to the
Sottodirezione Genio, bearing oval and circular official
administration cachets, and a Post Free Official cover to Al
Commando Supremo, Ufficio Ordinamenti e Mobilitazione from the
Comando Corpo d’Occupazione Interalleato di Fiume. British forces
are well documented, including: a card with British Field Post
cachet “FD 1” to Wokingham, a censored letter from Army Post Office
“L.14” to England (Proud rarity rating: 300 points), mail bearing
the 8th Battalion York & Lancaster Regiment censor mark “190”,
French occupation forces are represented by two postcards from the
42nd Battalion of Colonial Infantry to Boulogne, each with “Trésor
et Postes” datestamps (only two recorded in Gilbert), together with
censored military mail from France bearing the official cachet
Commissione Censura Postale Militare / Fiume, marked “sconosciuto”
(unknown) and returned to Paris. The collection also includes a
group of seven contemporary picture postcards depicting gatherings
and events during the occupation period. Condition is generally
fine for military and occupation mail of this turbulent period. A
compact yet highly significant study of the multinational Allied
presence in Fiume, combining British, Italian, and French military
postal history, and offering strong potential. Provenance: Ex John
Pitts. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6) (Image 7) (Image 8) (Image 9) (Image 10) (Image 11) (Image 12) (Image 13) (Image 14) (Image 15) (Image 16) (Image 17)

1703 cover image1918/1924: Postal Stationery Specialised Exhibition Study. A
thoughtfully researched and carefully written-up postal stationery
collection, attractively presented on fifteen exhibition pages and
comprising 30 examples: 14 used and 16 unused, including two
forgeries and examples with favour cancellations for comparison.
The study opens with an exceptional precursor item; a 5 f.
Hungarian postal stationery card (1902 issue) posted aboard the
S.S. Pannonia, bearing the unique registration label “Fiume–Cattaro
/ tengeri posta” together with the “FIUME–CATTARO” handstamp dated
"23 March 913" (missing 1 in date slug). An extremely rare and
important maritime stationery usage. The collection offers a
representative and well-balanced range of usages, including
censored, registered, and uprated examples, alongside clean unused
cards of the various Fiume issues. Commercially used Fiume postal
stationery is acknowledged as rare, and even favour-cancelled
examples are scarce, adding particular significance to the used
material included. A compact yet highly specialised and
exhibition-ready study of Fiume postal stationery during a complex
transitional period. Provenance: Ex John Pitts. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6) (Image 7) (Image 8) (Image 9) (Image 10) (Image 11) (Image 12) (Image 13) (Image 14) (Image 15) (Image 16) (Image 17) (Image 18)

1704 cover image1918/1924: Extensive Postal History collection of 148 covers by
Post Office Origin. An extensive and systematically arranged postal
history collection of covers, attractively mounted on display pages
and organised according to post office origin. The material is
distributed as follows: Fiume “1” – 86 examples, Fiume “2” – 22
examples, Fiume “3” – 22 examples, Fiume “5” – 17 examples, Fiume
“6” – 1 example. The collection illustrates a broad range of postal
rates and services, including registered, express,
registered-express, and ordinary correspondence. A good selection
of counter letters is included, adding further postal and
commercial interest. The arrangement by office origin allows for
comparative study of usage, cancellations, and postal development
during this complex and politically fluid period. A well-presented
and substantial assembly of mail from 1918–1924, offering both
exhibition merit and excellent scope for further research or
expansion. Provenance: Ex John Pitts.
