Hungarian Post Offices in Romania, Ibraila; 1867 (Nov 8): Entire letter to Vienna bearing a three-colour franking of Coarse whiskers 2 so. yellow, 3 so. green, and 5 so. red, three overall fine and fresh
adhesives tied by clear IBRAILA cds (Tchilinghirian fig. 730), reverse with rectangular “MARIAHILF WIEN” arrival datestamp (Nov 14). A clean appealing cover with this unusual combination to pay the 10 soldi rate from the Levant to
Austria, no similar cover recorded. Illustrated in Edition d'Or volume 72 on page 70 Ferchenbauer = € 1’800. Note: From May 1st, 1867 six of the post offices in the United Principalities (Bucharest, Fokshan, Galatz, Giurgevo,
Ibraila & Ploesti) came under the Hungarian postal administration. The Soldi Arms issues became officially invalid on June 16, 1867, but the stamps of the new Franz Joseph 1867 issue were not yet delivered to the Hungarian Post
Offices in the United Principalities. Thus, correspondence despatched there continued to use the Arms issues, the latest usage recorded is July 25, 1867. Thereafter the 1867 issue was used. Provenance: Collection Cihangir;
