DDSG Agencies in Romania, Guravoja 1867ca: The famous unique piece bearing DDSG 1867 10 kr. green type I, tied by a superb strike of the oval "GURA-WAI 2/7" datestamp in blue (Tchilinghirian fig 776). Cert.
Goller (2026). Note: Guravoja or Gura Văii was the first village on Wallachian ground at the Romanian end of the Iron Gates defile. This outpost should normally have been the frontier check-post for ships entering the Principalities,
but was presumably too small for this purpose, as Customs and Passport formalities took place at Turnu Severin, about six miles downstream. The low importance of this locality is reflected in the fact that only one single example
of a marking is known until today, the one offered here. Reference: Dispayed and discussed in Gmach vol I on page 288. Provenance: Collection Eduardo Cohen; Collection Steindler, Robson Lowe, Basel (March 1972), lot 338; Collection Dr. Jerger, Dorotheum sale (November 2003), lot 19; Collection Emil Capellaro, Corinphila sale 240 (March 2010), lot 5688.
