5125 **/*/piece/cover/bof/(*) 1947/2002: Extensive Lifetime Collection - Albums, Stockbooks &
Postal History. A substantial and far-reaching “old-time”
collection formed over several decades, comprising more than 45
albums and stockbooks, together with additional boxes and a large
quantity of loose material. The holding includes an almost
comprehensive representation of unused and used issues across the
period, featuring: large multiples, blocks, and complete sheets,
listed and unlisted varieties, overprints and specimens,
imperforate multiples and blocks, Bahawalpur, postal history
material covering the entire period, strong in Independence
material, including Independence transitional cover dated 21 August
1947 carried by rail cross border. Postmarks study/assembly, as
well as instruction markings. Extensive study and unsorted
accumulation of district surcharges, machine overprints (errors,
settings & usages). Selection of 1963 United Nations Security
Force, military mail and civilian censor. A substantial and
excellently comprehensive study of Postal Stationery, unused and
used included, encompassing registered, airmail, 1971/73 POW
stationery used and unused, lettersheet/aerogramme, envelopes,
registered, Red Cross and postal cards, with many items
demonstrating commercial use as well as Specimen examples. Parts of
the material are arranged chronologically and by value, district;
many pages handwritten-up with notations and research notes as a
structured study of the issues, their use and overprint
characteristics - reflecting careful and knowledgeable
accumulation. The collection contains many better items, including
scarce and rare varieties, postmarks and frankings, offering
significant scope for further research, expansion, or commercial
breakdown. Large quanity of unsorted mail and auction purchases yet
to be placed within the collection remain in boxes. Condition is
mixed in places, although broadly fine, with a good proportion of
very fine material to be found; some faults due to enviroment, age
affected, as to be expected in a holding of this size and scope. A
rare opportunity to acquire a major multi-decade assembly of
considerable depth and value. Undoubtedly with much to discover.
