87 cover image1875: 30 s. violet, syllabic 4, a used example, marginal from base
of the sheet, on 1884 cover with imprinted "HMS Vanadis" on
reverse, addressed to Stockholm, Sweden and endorsed "via San
Francisco" at base tierd by obliterator in blac and by YOKOHAMA
despatch cds (Sept 14) in black. Reverse with New York cds (Oct 7)
and two Stockholm arrival datestamps (Oct 19) in black. The
envelope with restoreable closed tear at top left, well away from
the fine adhesive. Rare and most unusual. Note: HMS Vanadis was a
steam frigate of the Swedish Navy, launched in 1862. She was the
only steam frigate constructed for the Swedish Navy. During the
date of this cover Vanadis was on a scientific circumnavigation of
the Earth (1883-1885), known as the Vanadis expedition. The steamer
arrived in Japan after three weeks at sea from the Marshall
Islands, the Vanadis underwent repairs in Yokohama and the senior
members of the party had a meeting with Emperor Meiji. (Image 1) (Image 2)

(Scott-Nr. 154) unused and used, the later issues often collected
both unused and used including an excellent and remarkable group of
the Miniature Sheets, in the begining the very elusive 1934
Airplane Block (Scott-Nr. C8) both unmounted og. and used. Together
with a very fair amount of modern material with substantial facial
values and more. Somewhat slightly mixed condition up to the
semi-modern issues. A lovely and most appealing assembly, neatly
