Medical Profession Revenues 1958/60: On the formation of the UAR with Syria on Feb. 1st 1958, the Egyptian pharmaceutical firm, the Maatouk Brothers, needed, under Syrian law, to apply Medical Profession Revenues to certain products they were exporting from Egypt to Syria. Initially the Egyptian revenue stamp of 1957, the 2 m. green, no wmk., perf. 11½ (Feltus 841) was overprinted to comply with the Syrian customs duties
and overprinted in Syrian Piastres in black. The collection offered contains large multiples of the 2 m. green overprinted "Maatouk Brothers / 14.5" piastres in black in a block of 90 (9 x 10), an irregular block of 86 and a block of
70; 2 m. green, no wmk., perf. 11½, (Feltus 841) overprinted "27" piastres in black in a block of 30 (3 x 10) and 40 (5 x 8) the latter block without gum; 1959, 2 m. green, wmk. Stethoscope, perf. 11½ (Feltus 845) overprinted "15"
piastres in black in a Control "A/59" block of 40 (4 x 10) from base of sheet and an irregular block of 49; 1959, 2 m. green, wmk. Stethoscope sideways, perf. 11½ (Feltus 845a) overprinted "15" piastres in black in a top right corner block of 80 (10 x 8) and a block of 40 (4 x 10) overprinted "15" in black in a different font; 2 m. green, wmk. Stethoscope, perf. 11½ (Feltus 845) overprinted "18.5" piastres in black in a Control "A/59" block of 4 and a
large block of 75; 2 m. green, wmk. Stethoscope , perf. 11½ (Feltus 845) overprinted "25.5" piastres in black in blocks of 80 (8 x 10) and 70; and 2 m. green, wmk. Stethoscope, perf. 11½ (Feltus 845) overprinted "96.5" piastres in black in blocks of 60 and 30 stamps. Rare and most unusual - the stamps would have been withdrawn in July 1960 when the customs stamps were no longer required. The first multiples this describer has seen of these issues. A rare study
