DESMADRYL & EARLY LITHOGRAPHED ISSUES 1854/1856: Specialised group of early Chilean classics centred on the 1854 Desmadryl 5 c. reddish-brown issues (Scott 3/3a), comprising a representative study of shades, watermark orientations and cancellations. Included are used examples showing the four different watermark types, with straight-line SANTA ROSA (two), S. CARLOS and SERENA cds (April 1854), blue target cancellation,
and further fine shades; multiples include strip of three, block of four, strip of six, a rare vertical strip of four on March 1854 cover and a pair on 1856 Copiapó cover, together with an example showing a pre-printing paper
fold. In addition, 1854 lithographed 5 c. red-brown (Scott 7 var.) exhibiting the Lithographic Transfer Flaw with the “C” of FRANCO squeezed (Blank 5 / Vt 5/15), neatly cancelled and very fine. Condition somewhat variable but generally
attractive, a scarce and desirable assembly from this classic and challenging first issue period. (Image 1)
