4870 imageBritish East Africa 1891/97: Collection on album pages, comprising
the Imperial British East Africa Company issues and subsequent
overprinted provisionals on India and Zanzibar, with an emphasis on
printings, settings and varieties. Includes 1891–94 Company
definitives with a useful study of printings on watermarked and
unwatermarked papers, showing a range of shades and issues by date
(1891–94 printings). The 1895 “British East Africa” overprints on
India well represented, including a largely complete run of values
with multiples, together with a specialised group of varieties of
overprints such as spelling errors (e.g. “Afrlca”, “Aplrca”,
inverted “V for A”, and inverted "s" in “East”), with some
identified by SG number and occasional certification noted. Further
includes the Zanzibar surcharged provisionals (1896/97),
illustrating different surcharge types and settings, with
additional varieties. Also Small Queen 1896 Protectorate issues on
Crown CA paper with a good range of values and shades, including
higher values to several rupees. Condition somewhat mixed in
places, though many fine and fresh examples; a well-organised and
specialist-oriented collection offering considerable scope for
further study and expansion. Gi = £ 7'764 (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6) (Image 7) (Image 8)
