Service" from the Treasury to Major Maclean, with London crowned paid cds and oval 'Paid Ship Letter / London' in red (30/6/42). The other, a commercial entire addressed to Lieut. Glen of the 3rd West India Regiment on McCarthy Island, River Gambia, marked 'Pd' with Charing Cross despatch datestamp (3/7/43), rate '8' and with a 'Paid Ship Letter / London' dated oval also in red. 660 cover imageIncoming Mail: Great Britain 1867 6 d. violet, plate 6, lettered CK, used on a commercial wrapper from London to Bathurst, River Gambia, dated 29 August 1867, tied by a London '48' barred oval, with Late mark (30/8) in red alongside and a manuscript '1' in crayon. To the reverse, a despatch datestamp (29/8) in black and circular segmented quadrant cancel with 'L' in the center. Heavy creasing, stained and some faults. A note on the inside gives details of an arms shipment, "Forty Five Chests Guns, Two Kegs Flints, Eighty Cases Shot and Ball, Eight Hundred and Forty Kegs Gunpowder, Six Hundred and Twenty Bars Iron." 661 cover imageIncoming Mail: 1871 Post Office Notice "West Coast of Africa Additional Services, Changes in one of the dates of Sailing", dated 30 January 1871, providing details of the five departure dates of sailing from Liverpool. To the reverse, a private notation made in 1875. Some creasing as would be expected for such a document, otherwise in a good state of preservation. Additionally, comes with an 1858 Bill of Exchange from Bathurst to France for 1,434 francs, with 9 d. purple Foreign Bill stamp affixed. Rare and unusal duo (2). (Image 1) (Image 2)

1712 cover imageSeafarer Atlantic Record Flight 1933 (July 22/23): Envelope carried on the flight from Pendine Sands, Wales to New York, by Amy Johnson and her husband Jim Mollison, franked 1 1/2d. tied by London machine cancellation of June 1st and bears additional Croydon circular date stamp of June 4th. Cover signed by both pilots and is one of only four covers carried. Inside the envelope additional note stamped by Shell-Mex and BP Mollisons’ fuel supplier in their endeavor. 1713 cover imageAttempted Nonstop Flight Paris to San Diego, California by Maurice Rossi and Frank Codos 1934 (May 25): Flown cover signed by Rossi and Codos, French and U.S. franking tied by May 25 and May 29 datestamps, respectively. Paul Codos and Maurice Rossi attempted to establish a new distance record in the Bleriot “Joseph Le Brix” airplane. They proceeded for an emergency landing on Floyd Bennett Field, New York due to adverse weather condition. This was the second non-stop flight from Paris to New York.Very Fine and rare, with only ten covers carried AAMC 1208. (Image 1) (Image 2)

1714 cover imageFirst East - West Woman's Solo flight by Beril Markham 1936 (Sept. 4-5): Cover with special cachet in black franked with King Edvard VIII 1/2d. green, which remained as usual uncancelled, flown from Abingdon, England to Louisburg - Nova Scotia. After a 20 hours flight, her Percival Gull “The Messenger” plane, suffered fuel starvation due to icing of the fuel tank vents and she crash-landed at Baleine, Nova Scotia. Beryl Markham became the first woman to cross the Atlantic east-to-west solo, and the first person to make it from England to North America non-stop from east to west. There were only 26 unaddressed covers carried, signed by Beryl Markham AAMC TO1265. (Image 1) (Image 2)

1715 cover imageUK - Canada Ship to Shore Flights by St. Lawrence Seaway Air Mail Service 1928/32: Group of five envelopes, incl. four inward mails through the accelerated St. Lawrence Seaway Air Mail service. Properly franked with 1½ d., the Empire surface foreign rate, which was used for this system until August 24th, 1928 as well as 1932 Shore to Ship Flight to S.S. “Empress of Britain” at Bradore Bay flown by Lt. D.A. Harding on Ottawa-Rimouski leg (some stained perfs.) Fine and scarce usages though. (Image 1)

Half Ounce' Empire Airmail Scheme rate to rare destinations in the Pacific as Nauru, New Hebrides, Norfolk and New Zealand (Mu-387) as well as ten first flight covers from Ireland and to the Channel Islands together with an envelope of 1939 first regular service to the United States.
