Comprising 1892 overpaid envelope to Germany franked with ½ d. green and 4 d. brown neatly tied by cds sent via Liverpool. An 1895 envelope from Bathurst to Vienna with 3 d. blue tied by Bathurst cds also sent via Liverpool packet. Also, 1892 large envelope sent to Waterberg, South Africa, bearing full set of eight valies ½ d. to 1 s. sent registered with Post Office Gambia handstamp and with Liverpool and London registered marks and arrivals in Cape Town and Pretoria. 693 cover image1886/93: Group of five registered covers and a registered cover front, all with frankings from the Crown CC wmk. second perforated issue. Including; 1897 Bathurst to Austria franked with 1 d. (2) and 2½ d., and 1895 long cover front sent to Sydney, New South Wales bearing ½ d., 1 d., 2½ d. and 3 d., and a heavily soiled and damaged 1897 cover to London with ½ d. (5) and 2½ d. (3). Also, a philatelic cover dated 1898 sent to New York with 1 d., 2 d., 2½ d., 3 d., 4 d, 6 d., 1 s. and 1880/81 ½ d. from the first perforated issue. Also two printed commercial covers sent to London. Most are postmarked at Bathurst with Liverpool and London registered transit marks. Condition is slightly mixed, although a scarce and valuable selection (6). Including, a 1893 example sent to Antwerp, dated 11 October bearing 1 d. and 6 d. tied by Bathurst cds, with large 'R' in oval, sent via London and with Belgium registration label affixed. Also, an 1893 cover front sent to Paris, franked with ½ d., 1 d. (3) and 6 d., tied by barred oval in black, sent via Liverpool and London a triple rate cover. Also, an 1896 stampless envelope sent to Germany with imprinted 'Post Office Gambia' and an 1897 example franked with 1 d. and 3 d. (2) and to USA. The odd fault, although generally fine. 695 cover image1880/94: Collection of Queen Victoria post cards on album pages comprising 12 used examples. Including, four 1880 1½ d. green sent to Britain, Scotland, Switzerland and Germany, one of which is cancelled by an early use of the 'Received / Gambia' code B. Also, 1 d. surcharge on 1½ d. incorrectly sent from Freetown, Sierra Leone to Cornwall, as well as a card sent to Germany and a reply card also sent to Germany. There are five examples of the 1894 1 d. red including an early date of 24 April 1894 to Malta. Others sent to; Congo, Niger Coast and Sierra Leone. Some faults. A useful group (12). Comprising; 5 c. stationery card from Belgium uprated with 5 c. and cancelled by Anvers Station cds and 'Received Gambia' with a packet mail mark alongside; 1897 stationery card from USA uprated with 1 c. cancelled by San Francisco postmark and endorsed; "To any person interested in the collection of postage stamps." Also, 1899 GB 2 d. registered envelope uprated with 1 d. lilac (2) from Loughborough to Bathurst. As well as, an unusual overpaid 1898 envelope from Bathurst to Colne, Lancashire with 3 d., the back flap with printed "H.M.S. Alecto." in blue and two philatelic covers one an impressive large registered envelope with 1886/93 part set of seven values from 1 d. to 6 d. together with keyplates 1898 ½ d. (3), 1 d. (2), 2 d., 2½ d., 3 d. and 4 d. cancelled by concentric circles in black sent to Cheshire with the original printed receipt for 6 s. of postage stamps. Some flaws but generally fine. 707 cover/bof image1898/1902: Keyplate issue collection of eight covers, including four registered examples, one of which is also endorsed OHMS. Noted is a registered 1899 envelope sent to Sierra Leone franked with set of the eight values tied by double strikes of the barred circle pineapple cancel in black, with large 'R' in oval, neatly preseneted upon exhibition pages with a selection of stamps (8) with similar postmarks including a Cameo 2 d. block of four. Also, a 1902 printed Compagnie Français de l'Afrique Occidentale envelope sent registered to Switzerland franked with ½ d. and 1 s. pair tied by a Registered / Gambia dated oval code B, with large 'R' alongside, has vertical fold and creases caused by the original 4½ ounce content, otherwise fine and a scarce rate. The OHMS is sent to hull in 1899 franked with 4 d. and 6 d. tied by barred circle with London hooded circle registered alongside. Overall a fine group with the odd fault as would be expected. Provenance: Collection R.F. Bavington-Jones, June 1986 (Sierra Leone cover) and Leonard F. Weldhen, October 2022 (Switzerland cover). (2) and 2½ d and 1898 registered cover to Bridgetown, Barbados franked with ½ d., 2½ d. and 4 d. paying a double rate of 7 d.
