473 cover image1880/1945: Fine collection, primarily featuring foreign post offices in China on covers and postcards. The German offices represent 15 items, including material from Kiautschou. From Hong Kong, the collection includes a Chinese stationery postcard with additional 1 c. and 2 c. stamps, used in combination with two Hong Kong Two Cents stamps, sent from Peking in 1899 to Ludwigsburg, Germany. The French post offices are represented by 20 items, mostly addressed to Switzerland with registered covers . The collection also features 9 items from Japanese post offices, including six wrappers to Switzerland. Among them is a souvenir card bearing a 4 s. stamp alongside a 1 c. China stamp, documenting the 'Day of the Conquest of Newchwang by Japan on 31 August 1904' (not circulated). Additionally, there are four items related to the Japanese conquest of Manchuria, including three picture postcards, as well as a first-day cover issued during the Japanese occupation of Singapore, commemorating the third anniversary of the city's fall. Furthermore, the collection contains four items from Russian post offices. Several cut-outs and fragments are also present but are not listed in the respective sections. 3356 cover imageIncoming Mail via the Indian Ocean 1858 (April 27): Entire from Foochow, China to Launceston, Tasmania with manuscript “4” (cents) prepaid in red for forwarding from Foochow to Hong Kong with “♚ / PAID AT HONG KONG” crowned circle handstamp in red and datestamp on the reverse in black. Ship letter datestamps on the reverse in red for Melbourne and Launceston. The contents relate to the trading of tea to Tasmania. A fine and rare cover. Route - Private steamship: Departed Foochow 27 April 1858 to Hong Kong. P&O Line: Departed Hong Kong (23 May) per “Singapore” via Singapore (31 May) and Penang (3 June) to Galle (12 June). The European and Australian Royal Mail Co: Departed Galle (28 June) per “Victoria” to Melbourne (2 Aug). Private steamship: Departed (3 Aug) per “Royal Shepherd” to Launceston, arriving 5 Aug 1858 (100 days). 6403 cover imageKewkiang Local Post, 1895 (April 7): 'On Her Brittanic Majesty's Service' cover to H.M.'s Consulate General at Shanghai franked at quadruple 4 c. rate with 1894 Pagoda ½ c. black/rose pair and two ½ c. red / yellow and a pair of Kiang 1 c. black, tied by violet double framed oval "KEWKIANG / LOCAL POST", reverse with faint "SHANGHAI LOCAL POST" cds. Horizontal creasing at top affecting two stamps. The only known cover bearing the double framed oval dater of Kewkiang, used between March and April 1895.
