616 cover imageRegistered Envelope 1895: 2 d. grey, size I, used from Lagos to Leipzig, Germany, dated 11 April 1895, unfranked and with manuscript "7½" charge mark in red crayon to front and a further "5" crossed out. Cancelled to back with "Lagos / W. Africa" cds and to the front a "Liverpool" and "London" registered oval dated 4 May 1895 and 5 May respectively. Interestingly the former is black, the latter is red. Some stains and insignificant imperfection for such a large format envelope. In remarkable condition. Rare; one of a handful used. However, often these have had the stamps removed or are in poor condition. It is not known how many of the 1700 printed were actually sold and used (H&G C1a). Reference: The Postal Stationery of Nigeria, by Peter Hørlyck, pg. 23-24. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

Africa" circular datestamp, with "Liverpool" and "London" registered ovals alongside, dated 11 July 1897 and 12 July respectively, one in black and one in red. To the back a "Baden Baden" arrival dated 13 July and a Heiden arrival dated 14 July 1897. Some climatic stains, rubs, damage/worn and light bends. Although, in fine condition for an envelope of this format. Rare used example (H&G C1a). It is not known how many of the 1700 printed were actually sold or used.
