the Army at Naples until new orders. They will be fed and paid by the Military chest of the Kingdom of Naples", with a follow-up to these instructions at base concerning the Paymaster Gherardini's presence on Corfu. The French text transcribed

the supplies to Corfu. Inform him that I will hold him responsible if Corfu would be short the slightest commodity and that the possession of that island is more important to him than to France, and that I will not accept that where I have stationed

British Military Occupation 1809/1815 1814 (May 6): Entire letter written from Parga, Greece by Sir Charles Gordon to Plato Petrides, Inspector of Colleges on Zante, struck in transit with superb circular "ISOLA DI SANTA
MAURA" in red with rate "4" (pence) inserted in manuscript. Contents of the letter include: "I understand Capt. Angelo and the Navy are trying to persuade Donzelot to surrender Corfu which is not likely he will, they landed so often that he said if
they came again, he would make them prisoners...It is said the General is there, if so I shall see him soon. It is feared the Austrian Army is coming from Venice to take Corfu. You know the former has surrendered...". Donzelot, commander of the
French garrison at Corfu held on until he surrendered on 24 June 1814 under instructions from King Louis XVIII. The other six islands were in British hands: Zante had been occupied by the British since 4 October 1809 and Santa Maura since 16 April

British Protectorate 1814-1864 1816 (Aug 4): Entire letter from Corfu to Naples endorsed "Servicio Publico" at top, addressed to the Department of Health and Sanitation, struck on obverse by rare usage of french handstamp from
the occupation period "CORFÚ" in black with rate "8" (pence) below. The entire heavily disinfected by two vertical slits and heavily toasted and vinegar splashed; reverse with oval seal in blue reading "Magistrato Alla Sanita Di Corfu" with vignette
of the mythological ship "Argo" (see K.F. Meyer "Disinfected Mail, page 180) and Naples arrival in red. A rare and remarkable entire with just two examples known of the "CORFÚ" handstamp known in the British early occupation period. Provenance:
