4129 cover image1840: Set of the four Mulready caricature, 1 d. black & 2 d. blue (Gi ME1/ME4), an example of a letter sheets and envelope for each value, unused. Some imperfections and paper adhesion to reverse from mounting and the 2 d. letter sheet the side flaps have been reduced slighty at base and paper adhesion along bottom flap. The 2 d. envelope has a horizontal filing fold along the lower portion. The 1 d. Mulready's are lightly toned the envelope more so. Overall a good group Gi = £ 1'975(Image 1)

4132 cover imageFamous English Engravers: Handwritten and signed note from Charles Heath (1785 - 1848) inviting William Watts (1752–1851) to play cards: "My dear Watts, If you have nothing better to do, come and play a rubber this evening at 8 o clock only on table, Yours truly, C. Heath, 6 Seymour Place, Euston Square". Has an outer wrapper with "W. Watts. Esq." written in the same hand. The reference "rubber" referring to the card game Bridge. Additionally, comes with a receipt dated 26 May 1803 signed by James Heath (1757 - 1834) who was the father of Charles Heath and another famous engraver. The receipt is damaged affecting a very small element of the upper loops of the signature. A charming duo(Image 1) (Image 2)

4133 cover imageRowland Hill Signature 1841 Letter from Rowland Hill headed "Ambleside, Westmoreland, Oct 7th 41" to an unnamed correspondent thanking for his kind note. Hill had taken the month of October for his annual holiday which he spent in the Lakes (for details see 'The Reform of the Post Office" vol. 1, page 180, Rowland Hill's Post Office Journal). 4134 imageRowland Hill Signature 1846 (Dec 21): Autographed letter-sheet (110 x 178mm.) written from the General Post Office, addressed to a Robert Shaw. The letter reads: "Sir, I have great pleasure in complying with your request and am, Sir, Your obedient Servant." with full "Rowland Hill" signature below. The letter was written at the time Rowland Hill had just returned to the GPO as Secretary to the Postmaster General. There are two contemporary horizontal folds. To the reverse a 'STRATHEAVEN' straightline handstamp in red (note spelling), a circular Glasgow transit and an arrival Endinburgh cds (DE 12) both in red. A vertical filing fold centrally and some other folds none of which affect adhesive. Cover is soiled. However, a rare coloured Maltese Cross cancellation. Cert. RPSL (old time - date not visible - signed by John Wilson & submitted by H.R. Harmer). One of three known examples from Strathaven, one other sent to Edinburgh, the other to Glasgow, dated Oct 1840 and February 1841 respectively Gi 2vd = £ 8'500(Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
