782 cover image1851/1940ca: Lot of 32 covers or cards, including 6 items from the 19th century, featuring an 1859 front with 2x 12 c. Washington (Scott 36) sent to England. Also included is a file folder containing approximately 130 envelopes from 1938-1940, primarily first or special flight covers (some bearing Newfoundland stamps) and FDCs, one 50 c. Zepp stamp on cover noticed. 5870 cover imageNew York City Despatch 1842/45: Covers (3) with 3 c. black on light blue wove paper, a fine large margined example on cover cancelled by octagonal "U.S" in orange-red with double lined "CITY DESPATCH POST / US" (Sept 2, 6 o'clock) cds in red - second day of use of this adhesive issued under U.S. authority; 3 c. black on blue glazed paper, a fine used example on circa 1845 cover to Portsmouth. Va cancelled octagonal "U.S" in red with New York cds below (Feb 25) in red and rated "20 c." in manuscript; third item with 3 c. on green glazed paper used on re-backed front to Jefferson County tied by octagonal handstamp in red with both City Despatch Post and New York cds's (Nov 11 and 12). Delightful Valentine's Day message inside "To Violetta, I love thee for thy innocent and unaffected pride, I love thee for that sweet content, which ever seems thy guide, I love thee for that smile of thine and for thy words of truth, and for thine eyes that brightly shine, thy beauty and thy worth".
