Coverage of the early Britannia is patching in places although there are often multiple examples of a particular value and much catalogue value remains in this section with 1860 Lithographed (1 d.) bluish grey on thin white paper used horizontal pair with ample margins and touched at right cancelled in black by numeral "1" obliterators at Port of Spain (Gi 19 = £ 800), 1862/63 6 d. emerald-green on thicker paper perf. 13 unused example of fresh colour, large part og. (Gi 65), 1882 Provisional ½ d. lilac and 1 d. rosy carmine perf. 14, each in unused blocks of four (Gi 100, 101x).Number of sets some of which are "Specimen" incl. 1938/44 Complete unused set of thirteen values all perforated with hooded 'SPECIMEN' (the May 1941 5 c. unknown thus) fresh and very fine large part og. (Gi 245-256s). A number of Proofs, and also a range from the 1935 Silver Jubilee set, Specimen set the 2 c. and 24 c. imperforate (Gi 239-242). Postage Dues and Officials incl. 1909 Official 1 d. rose-red unused showing variety "Overprint Inverted" and misplaced with red manuscript line on the top right corner of the stamp (Gi O9c - RPSL cert.). Numerous other contained within album including small amount of Tobago. Some flaws and faults, although mainly fine with many better. 1584 cover image1907: New South Wales 2 d. colbalt blue, used on cover, from Tristan da Cunha to Pontefract, England, via Australia, dated 22 August 1909 (letter enclosed), tied by Sydney machine cancel in black (Nov 2) with fine strike of the rare "TRISTAN / DA / CUHNA." undated double-lined circular cachet (Type I) in violet alongside a Pontefract cds in black (Dec 6), redirected to York on arrival with an additional Pontefract datestamp on the reverse (Dec 6) and an arrival in York (Dec 6). Carried by the White Star ship 'Mersey' which stopped at Tristan da Cuhna on 11 September 1909 and then went onto Sydney. Comes with a photo postcard of the vessel and a letter from Elizabeth Repetto, writing to her pen-pal in the UK. Some opening tears top, part of flap missing and climatic toning, however retains much charm and is an extremely rare cachet as well as an extraordinary third-party transit cover Gi = £ 4'000. 1586 cover image1925/52: Group of ten covers sent from Tristan da Cuhna bearing various examples of the undated circular cachet marks in violet including scarcer. Almost half are unstamped. The majority sent to England, although noted one to USA, South Africa and Scotland, with four covers that have tax marks and two with postage dues added. Whilst many are apparently philatelic there are three which appear to be of genuine postal use. Condition varys, although some fine cachet strikes.
