One of Only Two Recorded Railroad Agent Markings

1850 folded letter Philadelphia to Rahway N.J., with "New York & Phila. R.R. 7 Jan" railroad circular datestamp and matching "5." The letter was brought by Carter's to the railroad route agent, cancelled on arrival in New York City, where it entered the regular mails as an unpaid letter. The stamp with ample margins, slightly toned, and the cover with a fire fold. A very fine and rare usage.
