The 3c dull red with grid cancel on an October 5, 1852 folded letter from New Orleans to Lexington, Kentucky. Before dispatch, the letter was carried to the post office by the New Orleans U.S. City Post carrier, which applied the snow shovel datestamp dated October 3. As with all outgoing mail handled by the New Orleans carrier service, no fee was due. The cover shows faint toned spot.
