An Attractive Example of This Scarce Variety
July 25, 1844 folded letter
from Buffalo to New York; the stamp cut off and hinged back into place.
The “$1” value removed variety was a specific position within the sheet, used only for printings on surface-colored yellow paper, as reflected by the rarity of both off-cover examples and on-cover usages. Fewer than 20 covers are believed to be
recorded bearing this variety.
