1879 Covers to England, the first with 10th Royal Hussars flap sent from Jellalabad by Major Richard Wilson with 6a tied by "FIELD FORCE P.O" c.d.s (Feb. 1); the second from the Kandahar Field Force with 1a pair + 4a tied by diamond of bars cancels,
backstamped at Quetta (Mar. 12) and Sukkur. Wilson served with the Peshawar Field Force and later as transport officer with the Kabul Field Force taking part in the march to Kandahar and the Battle of Kandahar where he was wounded. (2).

1879 (May 30) Cover with enclosed letter from Camp Safed Sanj, from Capt. H.M Sandbach of the 4th Hazara Mountain Battery R.A to his father in Wales, with 1a + 4a unusually cancelled by the "FIELD P.O / MAY 30 / No. 15" c.d.s
at Jellalabad. The interesting letter includes "Matters are gradually drawing to a close up here. Peace was signed by Yakoob about 4.30pm on Monday 28th inst., the treaty was immediately sent to Simla for Lord Lyttons signature. Yakoob is waiting
here for it to come back, when he returns to Cabul, with or without Cavagnari is not yet known. The troops are to return to India as soon as possible". The cover with minor edge faults but an exceptional letter and rare F.P.O datestamp used as a

he is probably at Khelat i Ghilzai - a great amount of stores are coming down the Kabul river from Jellalabad by raft and I believe the rearguard will have to remain here some time to eat them up". (2).

KOTAL P.O" duplex (Aug. 27) to his mother in Wales, with enclosed letter from Camp Lundi Kotal which includes "the day before yesterday 2 or 3 marauders attacked our grasscutters & severely wounded one, crimping him all over just like a salmon.
Luckily they had only small knives, with big ones they would have killed him outright. The marauders got away though some troops were sent out after them". Also a contemporary Photo of the British camp and cavalry lines inscribed on reverse "Afghan
War - Lundi Khotal Camp". (3).

Roseabad which includes "General Roberts has done very well at Cabul & now a court of enquiry is being held on Yakoob Khan to find out if he has been implicated at all ..... we march again tomorrow & do not halt until we get to Gundamuck". The
second cover cancelled "F. No 14" between bars with "FIELD P.O / Nov 30 / No14" backstamp, a photocopy of the original letter written at Camp Pazwankotal included. The covers with corner faults at left, the F.P.O 14 c.d.s scarce. (2).
