694 image1914 (Aug 1) Official stampless cover to the German Admiralty, handstamped "Kommando / S.M.S "Scharnhorst" / B. no (1625)" and "Marinesache" with two strikes of the K.D.M.S No 16 datestamp applied whilst at Ponape, circular "Kaiserliche Marine / Brief-Stempel / Kommando / S.M.S "Scharnhorst"" on reverse. From the mail handed to the Father Superior of the Capuchins who buried it under the Catholic church, finally dug up and delivered in 1923, the cover with some understandable wear and soiling, very scarce. Private letters from this mail delivered in 1923 had explanatory mails applied by the German Post Office, but these were not applied to official letters. Photo on Page 86. (Image1)
