1861 image1893 (Dec 29) De La Rue Appendix Page bearing imperforate 1d (3), 6d (3) and 1/- (3) keyplate essays, comprising 1d carmine, 6d yellow-brown and 1/- sepia (the colours then current in Turks Islands) printed from the general keyplate (already in use for the Turks Islands ½d, 2½d and 4d values); alongside are two essays for each value printed from the "Postage Postage" keyplate, the first in the same colours as the general keyplate essays, the second with the duty plates in a second alternative colour (1d carmine and violet, 6d yellow-brown and green, 1/- sepia and mauve). All nine essays have handpainted country name, seven also with the value handpainted (only the two 6d "Postage Postage" essays with printed values), the page initialled and dated "1.1.94" with red ticks alongside each essay. Submitted by De La Rue to the Crown Agents in an attempt to abandon recess printing of the 1d, 6d and 1/- Turks Islands stamps from the old Perkins Bacon plates printed in sheets of 30, and have surface printed sheets of 240 instead. These three values were never produced by surface printing, but the "Postage Postage" keyplate was adopted for the new 5d value a few months later. Light crease through the three 1d essays, otherwise fine and a remarkable appendix page illustrated and discussed in "De La Rue History" by Easton (p.531, plate 32), ex De La Rue archives, 202x235mm.
