1783 imageWar Train. 1941 Covers posted on the first War Train tour around South Africa, departing Johannesburg on March 22nd and finally arriving at Pretoria on May 7th (46, two stamped), or from the second tour which left Pretoria on May 12th visiting Bechuanaland, Northern and Southern Rhodesia and Belgian Congo (7). The first tour covers mostly with "WAR TRAIN PO" and/or "OORLOGSTREIN PK" skeleton datestamps with the civilian datestamp from the train's location, some also with official cachets, also an advertising leaflet showing the train's itinerary. The rare second tour covers all with official cachets and datestamps including Francistown, Bulawayo, S.A A.P.O 8 used at Broken Hill and Elisabethville. A fine lot, mainly commercial covers, well written up on pages with an accompanying article based on this collection. (54). Photo on Page 248. (Image1)

1787 1925 (May 28) Covers flown from Cape Town to Durban franked 2d postage + Air 3d and 6d or 2d + Air 1d and 3d, the 1d and 6d Air stamps imperforate. The Air stamps possibly just perforated stamps with the perfs trimmed off; however the 6d stamp has large margins and appears to be too big to be a cut-down perforated stamp, so these two stamps may be cut from one of the very rare imperforate miniature sheets produced in tiny numbers for presentation purposes. (2).
