1753 image1900 (Mar 26) Cover to Beaconsfield, Griqualand West, franked Mafeking 6d on Cape 3d (S.G. 4) cancelled by Mafeking c.d.s, manuscript "S" alongside, backstamped at Barkly West (Apr 11) and Beaconsfield. Vertical fold and some soiling, nevertheless an uncommon 6d southern route cover and an early use, sent just two days after this stamp was issued. Photo on Page 248. (Image1)

Rosenfield Bechuanaland Rifles" franked Mafeking 6d on British Bechuanaland 3d (S.G. 10, no comma variety) cancelled by two Mafeking datestamps, Kimberley squared circle (May 22) on the front, backstamped at Manchester (June 16). A fine and scarce 6d southern route cover, unusually from a soldier in the Bechuanaland Rifles, that took nearly eight weeks to reach Kimberley. With Holcombe Certificate (1998). Photo on Page 248. 1755 image1900 (Mar 30) Cover to London (with enclosed letter from Walter Wirsing, which states "I am chiefly writing you to furnish you with these stamps, as they are only procurable for bona fide postage purposes", "Wirsing Brothers, Mafeking, Bechuanaland" printed on flap), sent by the northern route, the 2/- double rate paid by Mafeking 1d on Cape ½d strip of three, 3d on Cape 1d, 6d on British Bechuanaland 3d and 1s. on British Bechuanaland 4d (S.G. 1, 3, 10, 11) all with Mafeking datestamps, the cover intercepted by the Boers and recovered at the end of the siege, readdressed back to the sender in the handwriting of he Postmaster Mr Howat, with a MY 17 Mafeking c.d.s applied. A Mafeking 1d pale blue (S.G. 17) used on piece has been glued to the reverse at a later date. A remarkable cover; over 100 letters intercepted by the Boers were found in the Boer Laager after the siege. Photo included on Back Cover. (Image1)

1759 image1900 (May 4) Forged 1d Sgt. Major Goodyear stamp tied by a forged Mafeking c.d.s (with large MY 4 date of a type never used in the genuine c.d.s) addressed to "Captn J. Dickson, Kimberley Hotel, Mafeking", a further strike of the datestamp on reverse. An unusual forgery, surprisingly with a 1983 Enzo Diena Certificate stating it is genuine! Photo on Page 248. 1760 1900 (Oct 30) Stampless O.H.M.S cover to New Zealand endorsed "Free, J. Harvald, Staff Clerk", with a Mafeking squared circle, the enclosed letter sent to Gen. Baden-Powell enquiring about John Woodmass who supposedly served in Mafeking during the siege, the letter then sent to six individuals (including the Commanding Officers of the Protectorate Regt., Rhodesia Brigade, Town Commandant and Chief Constable) all stating they can find no trace of Woodmass, returned to George Proude in Auckland. A unique item. (Cover + letter).
