Papers written by or belonging to Stephen Smith comprising 15 typed pages with manuscript notes forming pages 1-9, 14, 15 and 29-33 of his manuscript on early balloon ascents in India; nine pages of manuscript notes entitled "Just a few pleasant memories which might interest you. Facts not fiction - but do not ask me for names", the anecdote including meetings with naked or half naked lady pilots, suicides, demands for fees to carry letters, etc; two page manuscript on early aerophilately items turned down and now worth considerably more; and five typed catalogue pages. 1183 1817 (Feb 27) Letter in Persian mainscript, from Nawab Ghaus Mohd, fifth Nawab of Bhopal to the British Political Agent Mr Henley, written on notepaper decorated with diamond shaped gold leaf blocks and sprinkled with gold ink. The Nawab is replying to proposals sent by Lord Hastings, the Governor General of Bengal, which resulted in a treaty of 1818 setting the relationship between Bhopal and the British. An early and important letter from the Nawab, hand delivered, unique. Also a piece cut from the Bhopal Palace despatch register recording the despatch of this letter.

1185 c.1848 Large part lettersheets with purple boxed "SEHORE / PAID" handstamp, or red boxed "BHOPAL" dated "21 March 184-", the Sehore handstamp with R.P.S Certificate (2008) describing it as c.1829 although Hammond Giles only records this handstamp for 1848-52, the Bhopal handstamp only recorded by Hammond Giles used in 1852 although this example clearly predates this by at least three years. Both fine, possibly the two earliest handstamps used in Bhopal. (2).
