imprint, franked with 1851 3¢ dull red tied by two part strikes of "Wenona, Ill." straight line postmark, Extremely Fine. Scott No. 11A; Estimate $300 - 400.
Andrew Jackson Graham (1830-1894), author and teacher of
stenography, developed the Graham shorthand system, founded the A.J. Graham Company in New York City, and started The Student Journal.
Graham used a different Phonetic alphabet than Pitman and called himself "The Universal Phonographer".
After copyrighting his "Standard Phonographic Dictionary" in 1862, Graham filed a copyright infringement case against Benn Pitman, over shorthand techniques. (Image1)
