image 1869 (June 27) Fragment bearing a mixed franking of the 1868 4b vertical pair, together with 1869 10b blue, neatly tied by very fine scroll type A65 "DOROHOI" cds in blue, superb colour, crisp clean examples, with large margins all round with the exception of the base of the 10b and top of the first 4b, visually appealing piece; we have recorded only one additional example of this combination franking (on cover) including the very rare 1868 4b (see Cohen part III lot 4049); signed Heimbüchler. image 1869 (July 20) Cover to Braila franked with a 2b orange, large four margins, very rare and spectacular variety "PCSTA", tied by a time indicating T69 "Bucuresti" cds, arrival on reverse in blue dated 23/7, the cover being a folded printed matter article concerning a commercial signature specimen (thus the 2b franking being the correct rate for printed matter up to 15 grams), horizontal filing crease centrally not affecting stamp, attractive cover, very rare and fine, especially so given the size of the margins and the error in "POSTA"; this variety is only present on one position of the six different stones, almost certainly a unique variety on cover; cert. Heimbüchler (2007). Note: A cover showing a similar "FOSTA" variety was part of the "Cornelia" collection and was offered in 2007 for 5,000CHF. (Image)

image 1869 (Sept 12) Fragment bearing a mixed franking of the 1869 15b vermilion, used in combination with 1870 3b violet, both four margins, tied to small piece by rare star type A62 "TINTARENI" cds, forming the 18b rate for a simple domestic letter, this cancellation a great rarity; Tintareni is a small post office and one of the rarest of the entire Romanian classic philately (Heimbüchler = RR). image 1870 Printed Pharmacy lettersheet sent from Roman to Itzcani, Suceava (Austria) franked with 15b vermilion, Carol I with whiskers, four margin imperforate, tied by a "Gratar Simplu" (GR1 type) cancel, with "Roman Dim" dated 20.8 in blue, "P.D." lower left and "E. Mich Kerestes/Roman" cachet also in blue alongside stamp, additionally to reverse "Gara Roman Off Postal" in blue (=RRR), posted when there was no post office in Itzcani, the first being established the following year, as such no arrival, the mail being processed through the exchange office at Gara Roman; an extremely rare postmark. image 1871 (Feb 16) Maritime cover sent using the DDSG service to Braila, franked with horizontal pair 5b carmine-pink, Carol I with beard, imperforate (left stamp with repaired margin top and left) otherwise very fine, tied by a superb "Calafat Sera" cds in blue, "P.D." boxed in blue, arrival on reverse "Braila Dim" dated 18.2, the cover endorsed "Cu Vaporu" (by Steamboat); overland mail took several days, the boat service being much quicker and the Faranga merchants having a special agreement with DDSG for postal deliveries the normal rate being 10b for a domestic letter (the service was in operation from October 1870 to late 1872); very few covers recorded which used this postal arrangement and rare franking with a pair of 5b, being of greater rarity than the single 10b frankings (with the exception of the Paris issue). image 1871 (Jan 7) Registered cover sent to Fogaras (Hungary) franked with a 15b vermilion, Carol I with whiskers, imperforate, three margins cancelled by a Campulung blue cds to front paying the near distance rate, and a 25b orange and blue, Carol I with whiskers, imperforate, four good margins, tied to the back by Campulung blue cds, paying the registration fee; the near distance rate to the Austrian Empire was 15b (the normal rate was 25b), and nearly all the covers bearing this rate were sent to Itzcani; a cover sent registered to Hungary at the 15 Bani rate is a major rarity. image 1871 (Sept 1) Return receipt which accompanied a registered letter sent from Dorohoi, bearing a superb mixed franking of the 2b orange with four good to large margins, and the 3b violet large to huge margins showing the spectacular variety broken "S" in "POSTA", tied by scroll type A65 cds, paying the 5b fee for a return receipt; central vertical crease which has been reinforced, horizontal crease through top of 2b, some wear to edges as would be expected for such a document; however an attractive item and an extraordinarily rare combination, the 3b in superb condition with the variety; which is only present on one position of the six different stones, possibly a unique example of this variety on cover; cert.
