image UNRECORDED PURPLE "INTERDIT" MARKING (OF DURBAN?) ON INGOING COVER TO PRETORIA; 2 Oct. (?) 1899 env. (some creasing etc.) from Genoa to Pretoria with Italy 25c tied by Squared Circle with 4 Dec. 1899 "LONDON" transit backstamp and pink VR censor label, but stopped in Durban with fine 7 Apr. 1900 "RETURNED LETTER OFFICE/NATAL" cds on the front beside a very fine tiny purple "INTERDIT" ("Prohibited") mark (light fold) which must have been struck in Durban - it is in the UPU language of French and the purple colour of such marks used in London and the Colonies. The Italian returned mail cds (23 May 1900) on the front matches the "AL MITTENTE" ("To the sender") mark alongside. This "INTERDIT" mark appears to be unrecorded?
