image 1845, the "secret number one" of the United states. Two years before the issue of the first official stamp issues the postmaster of New York prepared 5 cents postage stamps. These "5 cents Washington" were intended for domestic covers. This nice letter with a rare foreign destination - from NEW YORK at the 15. AUG 1846 to LYON in France, where he - as proved by of the on the back arrival cancel - at the 2. SEP 1846 arrived. The stamp is on all sides full- to partial with wide margins cut and red ink cancelletion with the initials "A. C. M. " of the postmaster from New York. An especially nice item of the early postal history America! Photo expertize P. Vaccari 09 / 2019 (Image)
