image Rhode Island Airport Dedication Cover A dedication cover postmarked September 26, 1931, with enclosure, for the opening of the Hillsgrove State Airport, in a town then called Hillsgrove, now a village in Warwick, RI. The airport was the first state-owned and operated airport in the United States. It was formally dedicated on September 27, 1931, and two air shows drew a crowd of over 150,000 - the largest crowd that had attended a public function in the country until that time. In 1938 the airport was renamed Theodore Francis (T.F.) Green State Airport in honor of Green, who served as Rhode Island's Governor from 1933-1937, then as U.S. Senator, and who was an avid supporter of aviation. Est. $100-1,000 (Image)

image First Flight Covers New Jersey Group of 17 first flight covers from New Jersey, c1919-1983, mostly from 1930's-40's. Authentic first flight cover Air Mail Service Eastern Terminus, Newark, N.J. Aug. 15, 1919, with 2 Cent and "Via Airplane" stamps. Orange colored cachet across bottom reads, "Winged Letters from A.C. Roessler, East Orange, N.J.," shows bi-plane with letters fluttering underneath to the ground. Others in the group are cachet covers, one with postmaster's autograph.
