Texas was officially an independent state for only 3 days. Rare independent state use .

image United States, James Buchanan Exhibit, Confederate/Independent State/Civil War Covers, Texas, Rush Creek, Feb. 25, 1861, sent to St Augustine, Texas with neat ms cancel on interesting folded letter with #25 two days after the State Convention had voted for the Ordinance of Secession, the ordinance was to be voted on by the general population on Feb. 23, letter dated Feb. 23 has the following content; "there is a good deal of excitement about the cessation of the United States. We have an election next Saturday for cessation or against cessation. This portion of the country is nearly unanimous for cessation", it is possible the letter was written a few days before and dated when sent, stamp with faults, otherwise Fine.
