Marina Italiana in China" cds, struck again at left, forwarded through the "Ministerio di Marina" in Rome where the "Leoni" 5c was added to complete the payment of the lacking amount in the rate, tied by Rome cds on January 15. image 1915 (Jan 30) Registered cover from Peking to La Spezia (Italy), paying the 55 centissimi registered rate with "Floreale" 10c and "Michetti" 15c strip of three, tied by very fine strikes of "Distaccamento R. Marina Italiana in Cina" cds in violet, with registration marking at top applied in the same colour, backstamped on arrival. An extremely rare registered mail with this postmark. Cert. Sorani (1998). image 1944 (Aug 9) Japanese "Shanghai War-prisoner's Camp" formular card to Marzano-Torriglia (Italy) sent by Ugo Chinca, P.O.W. in Ziangwan Camp, after having been captured by the Japanese in China as a consequence of the September 1943 Armistice, with red Japanese censor's marking and blue Palestine hexagonal censorship cachet, written in English to be readable for the censor, indicating that "I am without your news since the 20th of last March received Via Vaticano". The sender, Ugo Chinca, who was a multi decorated officer involved in three wars, was in command of the "Conte Verde" warship, which he ordered to sink to avoid its capture by the Japanese, following the orders from the Italian Government after the 9.9.43 Armistice; he will be a P.O.W. and transferred from China to Japan in May 1945, being released by the Americans on 30.8.45, and coming back to his homeland on 17.2.46. One of only two items recorded from an Italian P.O.W. in Japanese camps. (Image)

image 1925-46 Italian Naval Mail in China, 17 items, comprising the R.N. "San Giorgio", "Montecuccoli", "Eritrea", "Colleoni", "Sebastiano Caboto", the majority franked and cancelled by naval cds, also included one photo postcard and one photograph of naval ships, an unusual calender (1927) illustrating the R. N. "Caboto"; including a rare franking with Italian commemorative issue, a very interesting 1946 usage in Shanghai combining the "R. Nave/Eritrea" cds and the British "Post Office/Maritime Mail" postmark, as well as the oval hs of the "Eritrea" in combination with Italian and British naval censorships franked with G.B. stamps. A very interesting and rare lot. (Image)
